Paraffin Wax Advantages and Disadvantages

There are different types of Wax available in the market

1.Paraffin Wax
2.Soy Wax
3.Bees Wax
4.Gel wax
5.Palm Wax etc

Lets talk about Paraffin wax today,
Paraffin wax is available in either pellets or in the form of a big chunk or a block.
Depending on ur usage choose the pellets or blocks because pellets are refined and they can be used based on the amount of wax u need to make ur candle but for a block u need to melt the whole thing and pour it some where else coz u wont need the whole block.

This is the wax that many feel is the only wax in the universe. Paraffin is made from petroleum. It's really cheap, so paraffin candles cost less than candles made with other waxes. Paraffin is the easiest kind of wax to make a functional candle out of when you don't know what you're doing.Perfect for beginners.

Other advantages to paraffin include:
• it's easy to dye with all types of candle dyes,
• all candle making fragrance oils work well in it,
• all additives work in it, Some of the pretty things that can be done with paraffin can't be done with other waxes.

Paraffin's disadvantages include:
• oil mining is frequently bad for the environment,
• petroleum is a non-renewable resource, so we're basically setting fire to something we have limited quantities of,
• it doesn't biodegrade, so it's going to be in our landfills for a REALLY long time

Good uses for paraffin candles:
• Beautiful decorative candles that won't be burned
• If you need a huge number of candles and have a very small budget to work with, paraffin may be your best bet, though comparison shop between paraffin and soy before deciding.
• Best wax to start with when you start out in candle making.

What inspired me to start making candles

I thought I should share how and what inspired me to start making candles, lemme introduce myself before I start.

I'm Sravya Chilla, working as a software professional.
Many must be thinking...
Engineer? and Candle Making? Y?
Whats the need?
Do you have time?
Will you have time?
How do you manage things?
Don't you think you are getting stressed?

These are the questions I usually face.. Specially when i wanted to give a try and took my mom for shopping she pulled me back for not taking huge bulk stuff...coz she felt I'll be strained...!!!

I was on so called "BENCH" for a period of month in my office...Leisure time... was reading few blogs on the system... some where some candle making stuff stroke my eyes....Continued reading... then started exploring...not many in India though... saw few small tiny 5yr old kids making candles as their hobby?
When it is possible in the USA or UK.. Y can't i make them was the question which stroke my mind...
Mean while saw some beautiful candles in @home, they were awesome...bought few and those pushed my dream further.

Still had a doubt... Can I? To boost my confidence... saw few more bogs many videos and pages....gave a thought of how many types of candles can I make and all... who will buy from me? I asked my husband... I wanna start a small business... I need X amount... without a second question he told ok..

Got few shot glasses, wax, wicks, colors and started to make layered shot glass candles...dint work out so well....

Next wanted to make cupcake candle... took cupcake liners... made the cupcake with icing... and this was amazing....

I showed it to my husband and asked him... I need some more X amount to expand this... he just gave me a challenge... Just sell one candle and show..!! ill give u the X amount...
I got frustrated but took it as a challenge... my first candles were just 2 shot glasses for my colleague in Gurgaon... Mr.Ashok Singh...
I told my husband... see I sold...
From then he supported me in every aspect...for all the candles I make now, his support being the first reason,my family,my friends supported me in all aspects :)

Thanks for all you support :)
